Gold was one of the five beaches [ Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. ] used on the D Day landings. It was important because it had Mulberry Harbour, a prefabricated port shipped over from England. It was a major undertaking, one that succeeded. The other Mulberry was lost to rough seas, making Gold the only port of entry for heavy goods. We also took and held Pegasus Bridge
