Telecommunications are about sending speech, video, data, whatever to other places. The technology is world changing. The progress is enormous.


Engineers Make Leap in Optical Networks
Men at Stanford have made a shutter which will switch light at 100 gigabits per second which sounds useful. It translates into some 1.5 million speech channels. Fibre capacities are also up in the gigabit range.  Telecoms will keep on getting cheaper as oil gets more expensive.
